Scars is a travelling exhibition that looks at legacies. How scars are perceived by others is as important as how the “injured” person feels about them. Often times, scars are hidden behind clothing. Bearing all can be an act of defiance. This collection represents men and women who, by exposing themselves, reveal the contrast between light and dark, masculine and feminine, fear and contentment. Scars combines storytelling and digital photography. Each of the scar’s origins are different; a near-fatal car accident on a winter road, a premature birth by c-section, breast cancer and a Grizzly Bear mauling. All of the subjects are residents of the Northwest Territories. All images and recordings were made in Yellowknife.
