Dear Dad is a tribute to my father John “Jack” Collins Murphy and his archive of slide and print film. He was physically present when we were growing up but emotionally absent. This was in part due to his occupation - shift work as a Vancouver City Police officer. And in part due to his age. He was 41 when I was born in 1967 - astonishingly old then but common place now. Through the process of digitally scanning my Dad’s transparencies and negatives I developed a respect for his eye as a photographer. I also had a better understanding of who he was as a husband and father. Working with his slides gave me a sense of peace that evaded me for so many years.
