Every winter, small shelters appear on frozen lakes across Canada. In Yellowknife, these portable ice boxes and tents protect fishers from the cold. Inside, people cluster around a drilled hole in the ice, dropping their lines into the frigid water below. The huts are temporary outposts of modest comfort in an otherwise stark northern landscape.
