Fishing Shacks

Every winter, small shelters appear on frozen lakes across Canada. In Yellowknife, these portable ice boxes and tents protect fishers from the cold. Inside, people cluster around a drilled hole in the ice, dropping their lines into the frigid water below. The huts are temporary outposts of modest comfort in an otherwise stark northern landscape. Their doors open into spaces that feel unexpectedly separate from the world outside, not unlike stepping through a doorway into Narnia. The colour of these huts is particularly charming.
